San francisco swig bar

While their time at the bar has been less eventful in some ways than the past — no murders, no drugs — they have nonetheless shepherded at least three versions of the space during their tenure.

What attracted Quinby and James to the location was music. As musicians, they frequented the bar to watch The Mermen, who used the bar as a rehearsal space.

Following the closure of the Sand Bar, Quinby and James tracked down the person who held the lease for the space, Leonard Iffla, and talked out their ideas for the bar with him. Ultimately, Iffla liked their plans, Quinby said, and walked them through the finer points of bartending and bar ownership before gifting the lease to the duo. They rebuilt the bar as the Riptide, and since Quinby and James liked the music element of the bar prior to their ownership, they kept the music as central to their opening plans.

Quinby and James spent time building up their roster of bands and themed nights for bar patrons and music lovers, like themselves. A devastating fire in , however, brought them back to the start; the fire, which started in the business adjacent to the bar, took everything back down to the studs, along with the decor and knick knacks collected over the 11 years since the bar opened under Quinby and James.

Music memorabilia including signed photos line a wall next to the stage of The Riptide where live music is at the heart of the place in San Francisco, Calif. When asked about the damage, Quinby and James point to a single light bulb in the ceiling as the only thing that survived the fire.

Guests enjoy dancing lindy hop, charleston, balboa, shag, swing. Dance and listen to the best of the SF Swing and Jazz scene every Wednesday, featuring a wide variety of bands, different each week! I've danced at swing clubs all around the world, and Cat's Corner is one of the best. Great environment, great people and great music. Cat's Corner has been a fun learning experience so far, and I look forward to taking several more months of classes here.

I've been telling my friends all about it! Skip to content Cat's Corner is live and online during the pandemic!
