With use of wire, foam or needles, bodies can be put into fixed poses. In this show, the exhibits include such striking, full-sized bodies as those of male and female flamenco dancers, the Singer, the Runner and an acrobatic couple posed doing an overhead lift. All show off various aspects of how the body functions, from the cardiovascular system to the muscles. Arrayed around bodies are exhibits of body parts and multimedia presentations that deal with what happens when the body is put through stresses — from smoking and bad eating habits to disease — and provide information on how to avoid those stresses.

More important, they have raised the profile of the museum, both in the Bay Area and around the country. The museum — located in the Capital of Silicon Valley — is a non-profit experiential learning resource established to engage people in exploring and experiencing applied technologies affecting their lives.
